Love Letters to American Soil
I want to buy a home, yes.
I want to buy a home in the same sense that I want a committed relationship.
Using this as some form of an analogy, I think that when I return to the U.S., it's best that I keep dating new locations.
Exploring my options.
Feeling out the venues.
Over time, perhaps, I can get a better understanding of what these different places have to offer me in terms of a longer-term stay.
But … until I have that sense, it's not worth committing to any one specific part of the map just yet.
And buying a home IS a commitment - a contract.
For me, there needs to be as much if not more freedom inside of that contract than there is without it altogether.
Without that level of freedom, I can't buy into anything any area can offer me.
As a wise man once said, no deal is better than a bad deal.
So, the next step is to continue traveling and touring and sharing with various communities.
And while these places and organizations will each have their own energies and communal experiences, it's safe to say that I want to see more of the United States when I reenter than I already have.
I want to continue to develop my strengths in the musical arena and share in this play that the universe chooses to involve me in.
And with this nomadic life, I think getting a better grasp of the kind of place I get to call home can be a sort of sense I can develop more of over time.
And eventually, I think the place will choose me.
One step at a time - let's get to it, shall we?
